How to Use Doheny’s Sand Filter Cleaner

The Sand Filter Cleaner is designed specifically for cleaning sand filter media by removing oils, dirt, and buildup, helping improve filtration and extend filter cycles.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Backwash your filter thoroughly
  2. Turn the pump off
  3. Pour cleaner into the skimmer
  4. Ensure chlorine feeders are turned off and removed
  5. Turn pump on until cleaner reaches the filter
  6. Turn pump off and let sit for 1 hour
  7. Backwash again until water runs clear
  8. Return to normal filter operation

12" 8 oz (1 cup)
18" 12 oz (1.5 cups)
24" 16 oz (2 cups)
30" 20 oz (2.5 cups)
36" 24 oz (3 cups)

Important: If your sand has not been cleaned in over a year, a larger dose may be needed for best results.

Maintenance Use

Add 8 oz during backwashing to maintain filter performance.

How to Use Doheny’s Filter Cleaner & Degreaser

The Filter Cleaner & Degreaser is designed for cartridge, D.E., and sand filters and is especially effective at removing oils and grease buildup.

For Cartridge and D.E. Filters

  1. Remove filter elements
  2. Spray cleaner evenly over surfaces
  3. Let sit for 10 minutes
  4. Rinse thoroughly for at least 5 minutes

Deep Cleaning Option:

  • Soak in a solution of 1 part cleaner to 3 parts water for 1 hour

For Sand Filters

  1. Backwash thoroughly
  2. Turn pump off
  3. Pour cleaner into skimmer
  4. Turn pump on until product reaches filter
  5. Let sit for 1 hour
  6. Backwash until water runs clear
Helpful Tip: This product is especially effective at removing sunscreen and body oil buildup that standard cleaning may not remove.
